Cumberland closes, Public House keeps pouring
In 2019, Cumberland Brewery closed its doors after a remarkable 20-year run. Cumberland was a pioneer in Louisville's brewery scene, paving the way for the craft beer boom that hit town in the early 2010s. While its closure was bittersweet, another local brewery stepped up to breathe new life into the beloved neighborhood brewpub.
Against the Grain Brewery acquired Cumberland Brewery, planning to reopen it as "Public House." They approached me to create a new brand identity and signage—an honor, given my frequent patronage of Cumberland.
Our aim was to make minimal changes to the building's aesthetics while crafting a visual brand identity that paid homage to its predecessor. The result draws inspiration from Cumberland Brewery's original branding, honoring Louisville's brewing heritage and Cumberland's lasting influence on the local beer scene.
